Prescott College is a private higher in Prescott, Arizona.

History [edit]

In 1965, the Ford Foundation brought together a grouping of educators from around the United States. Prescott College was the upshot of this gathering.

The college was originally built in 1966 on 200 acres (0.81 kmii) outside of Prescott, Arizona. In 1974 the college went bankrupt due to poor fiscal management and the loss of anticipated donor funds. A core of determined faculty and students refused to see the college fold, and after a serial of emergency meetings, formed the Prescott Eye for Alternative Educational activity. There are 4 general degree programs at Prescott College: the Resident Undergraduate Plan (RU), Express-Residency Undergraduate Programme (LRU), the Resident Masters and Limited-Residency Masters Program (RM/LRM), and a Express-Residency Ph.D. plan (PhD) in Sustainability Education.[iii]

Within the resident undergraduate plan, students can earn a Available of Arts, a Bachelor of Scientific discipline in Ecology Studies, or a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, Visual Arts or Interdisciplinary Arts & Letters.

Prescott Higher is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and the Clan for Experiential Teaching.[8]

The higher'southward Instructor Didactics Program is approved by the Arizona Land Board of Education and the National Association of Country Directors of Instructor Didactics and Certification (NASDTEC).[eight]

Consortium relationships [edit]

Prescott College has stand-alone student exchange relationships with Telemark University College in Norway, the Ecosa Institute in Prescott, the SOS Conservation Projection, and Sail Caribbean, that permit students to written report as visitors at other institutions while maintaining enrollment and paying tuition to Prescott.

Prescott Higher is a fellow member of the Eco League, a v-higher consortium of colleges with environmental studies programs: Alaska Pacific Academy, Green Mountain College (now closed), Northland College, and College of the Atlantic and, since January 2014, Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The consortium is unique in that each college is in a different geographic expanse.

Prescott College is too a fellow member of Centre for International Environmental Police (CIEL), a public interest, not-for-profit environmental law firm founded in 1989 in the United states of america to strengthen international and comparative ecology constabulary and policy around the earth.

In fall 2012, the college completed a $7.4M on-campus sustainable housing project, the Hamlet, to adjust up to 104 first-year students. The Hamlet is a LEED Platinum certified facility that consists of xiii new multi-story townhome style apartment units, for up to eight students in each three-level unit. Most other students reside in nearby apartments, condos, and houses.

From 2013–2016 Prescott College rented out one of its Hamlet buildings to Embry-Riddle University.

In 2016 a educatee-led initiative resulted in the acquisition of the Frantz Fanon Customs Strategy Eye for use for educatee and community organizing and order meetings. Groups that currently meet in the Frantz Fanon Customs Strategy Center include the Queer Student Union, The Advocates for Responsible Sexual Culture, the Black Student Wedlock, Mi Familia (a Latino and indigenous group), Yavapai Canton Planned Parenthood, and others. These clubs take successfully organized many events and demonstrations at Prescott College, and in the community. The Frantz Fanon Customs Strategy Center besides includes a zine library, a food pantry, a kitchen, and multiple classroom spaces.[9]

Prescott College Activists were also able to successfully establish a $30 semester fee to back up the Freedom Education Fund scholarship for undocumented immigrants seeking to attend academy. Prescott College President John Flicker has said of this projection "I am proud that our students take on the role of scholar activists".[10]

The College besides has a Educatee Activity Center (SAC) which is used by a variety of individual students and clubs to hold meetings and interact. The space is also utilized for the Student Union Board (SUB) meetings and includes a lounge area, kitchen area and the Max and Bessie Bakal Memorial Lounge and Library.[9]

Prescott Higher has a mountain biking team registered with USA Cycling that offers scholarships. Virtually athletics are intramural in general, since the college curriculum is centered on field-based immersion courses.
